2025 Legion Tattoo

June 22 @ 12:00 pm - 4:00 pm

The sights and sounds of the Pipes and Drums and Highland Dancing held in September of last year was such a resounding success that the Tattoo will be returning to the Town of Carleton Place again this year on Sunday, June 22rd. It is an event you will not want to miss.

It will once again be held on the grounds adjoining the Captain A. Roy Brown Legion Branch 192 building located at 177 George Street in Carleton Place beginning at 12 noon. The Almonte Legion Branch 240 Pipe Band will be the Duty Band for the Tattoo, who proudly wear the Ramsay Tartan. The Senior Drum Major for the Tattoo will be Darryl Lim, Drum Major of the Ottawa Caledonian Pipes and Drums.

Other bands participating in addition to the Duty Band will include the R.C.M.P. Pipe Band Ottawa and their Highland dancers, the Kemptville Legion Pipes and Drums, the Renfrew Highlands Pipes and Drums, the Sons of Scotland Pipe Band of Ottawa, the RCAF Pipes and Drums from Ottawa, the O.P.P. Commissioners Own Pipes and Drums and the 2 Canadian Mechanized Brigade Pipes and Drums from base Petawawa. And to add to the Scottish Heritage event, both the Rosemary Breman Highland Dancers from Carleton Place and the Nichols School of Dance Highland Dancers from Beckwith Township will also perform.

Refreshments and BBQ food will be available throughout the afternoon in the backyard of the Legion grounds at a nominal cost. There will be no admission price, but a collection will be taken during the afternoon performances to offset the cost of the Tattoo. No pets will be allowed on Legion property other than recognized certified service dogs, so please leave your pets at home.

In order to not impede the marching of the Pipe Bands and our Highland Dancers, spectators are being asked to not congregate or enter the playing field or the outside perimeter of the playing field or on any of the streets being cordoned off for the Pipe Bands. These areas will be cordoned off for access for the Pipe Bands only and will be policed with the assistance of our local O.P.P.

Spectators are asked to only congregate in the back yard of the Legion grounds.  Since seating is limited, it is suggested that people bring their own lawn chairs.

Road closures that will take place for the Tattoo will include Morphy Street from Mullet Street to Ramsay Street, and Ramsay Street from Morphy Street to George Street. This area will be policed and cordoned off and cars are asked not to park on these two streets and pedestrians are also asked not to congregate on either of these two streets or their sidewalks. Pipe bands will be congregating on Morphy Street and march along Ramsay Street to George Street prior to marching onto the playing field to perform throughout the afternoon.

Although there are three gates that lead into the backyard of the Legion, the only one that is to be used by the general public is the gate off of Mullet Street into the Legion’s backyard. This gate is also to be used for the handicapped. Entrance to the backyard of the Legion may also be gained through the Legion building.

The Morphy Street gate to the Legion backyard is for the use of Pipe Band members only. The playing field gate is for Tattoo officials and Highland Dancers only. All others are not to enter the playing field at any time throughout the day.

This event is a community event, and the general public are cordially invited to enjoy some real Scottish Heritage through the sights and sounds of the Pipes and Drums and Highland Dancers. The event is being sponsored by TES (Tops Environmental Solutions) and the Town of Carleton Place.
